Will it get in the way when I scroll or click?
No. Only a one-finger slide that starts right on the trackpad's edge counts, so scrolling, clicking and gestures work as usual, and slides are ignored for a moment after you type so a resting palm doesn't change anything.
Which Macs, trackpads and screens does it work with?
Any Mac running macOS 13 Ventura or later. It's built for the MacBook trackpad, where haptic ticks work too. A Magic Trackpad works for slides, and Magic Mouse support can be turned on in Settings.
Brightness slides change your main display: a MacBook's built-in screen or an Apple display. Most third-party monitors don't let macOS set their brightness.
Which music apps does the Media Strip control?
Any app that responds to your keyboard's play and skip keys: Music, Spotify, and most browser players such as YouTube.
Can I change how it works?
Swap Sides puts brightness on the right, and Reverse Swipe flips the direction for next and previous track. You can also set sensitivity and haptic strength, limit slides to the lower part of the edge with Active Area, or hold Shift-Option for quarter steps.
Why does EdgeBar need Accessibility (“Device Control and Data Access”) permission?
macOS only lets an app change volume and brightness, or keep the pointer still, if you've granted it this permission. Newer versions of macOS call it Device Control and Data Access, and macOS may ask for it again after an update.
Apple's warning that apps with this access can “monitor your keyboard” or “record your screen” is the same for every app. EdgeBar only notices when you type, never which keys you press, and it never looks at your screen.
My pointer moves while I slide. How do I stop that?
Turn on Cursor Freeze in EdgeBar's Settings. It's on by default and keeps the pointer still while you slide.
How do I move my license to a new Mac?
One license key works on one Mac at a time. To switch Macs, choose Deactivate This Mac from EdgeBar's menu, or free the key on the manage page. Lost your key? Use Lost your key? at the bottom of the home page.
Does EdgeBar collect my data?
No. Your trackpad and keyboard input never leaves your Mac, and there are no analytics or tracking. EdgeBar contacts edgebar.xyz only for a daily update check and a license check. See the Privacy Policy for details.
